PDI Visit to Extrude Hone in Pittsburgh PA.
June 19 – 20 2018, Pittsburg, PA – Several employees from PDI (Performance Diesel Inc.) were able to travel to Extrude Hone’s impressive facility in Pittsburg PA area. During this visit, we were able to shoot some video footage to create a great “behind the scenes” look at one of the finishing processes of our PDI Big Boss exhaust manifolds.
We were thankful for the time that Rick and his crew set aside for us to visit their facility and film several stages of the process throughout the day.
The process used and that is shown in the video is called Abrasive Flow Machining “AFM”, which is where a putty-like media material with small chunks of carbide iron mixed in is flowed through the insides of our exhaust manifolds. The media flows through the manifold repeatedly for several hours per manifold. The carbide iron material provides the abrasive action needed to smooth out the porosity of the iron and remove any excess burring that may cause wall drag. This results in getting the smoothest most efficient inside surface for maximum air flow! (Available on select models)
It was great to see all of the precision work that Extrude Hone puts into this finishing process that is available exclusively through PDI’s Big Boss manifolds.
