Mid America Truck Show

March 22 – 25 2018, Louisville KY –  PDI (Performance Diesel Inc.) made the journey to Louisville Kentucky once again to proudly sponsor and display at the Mid-America Truck Show and PKY truck beauty contest.  This year PDI had two staffed booths, the outdoor sponsor lot and also our traditional indoor booth in the west pavilion.

We left the yard with the PDI show trailer fully loaded with all of our indoor and outdoor booth materials.  Pulling the PDI show trailer with our 2018 Peterbilt 389 (The Imposter) with a factory 605 HP 2050 Torque X15 Cummins.  This engine is the largest factory option available from Cummins, and with PDI’s exclusive X15 ECM tuning, Big Boss Intake Manifold and new Add-a-turbo kit, it was like there wasn’t even a load behind the Imposter!

We left on a Friday afternoon and traveled across Southern Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Indiana and finally into Kentucky on Monday. This route was just over 2000 miles of travel. Pulling into the washing and staging yard Monday morning, we were greeted by a lot of familiar faces in the show truck/trucking industry.  We spent Monday getting the Imposter and 53’ Display trailer washed and wiped down and moved over into the sponsor lot.  Tuesday morning brought some cold temperatures while we set up the outdoor booth and unloaded all the show cabinets for the indoor booth.  With wind chill, it was below 32 degrees most of the day.  Toward the end of the day, the weather was calling for rain and possibly heavy snow.  The outdoor lot was starting to fill in with some of the best looking show trucks in the country!  We left Tuesday night with snow starting to fall, on top of the ½ inch of water from earlier rain storms.

We arrived at the Kentucky Expo Center Wednesday morning to over 8” of heavy wet snow, and still snowing! Let the fun begin.  We had stopped and purchased a snow shovel at the local CVS (we don’t typically carry these around So. Utah!) We pushed all the snow out from around the Imposter and the display trailer, (shown in our MATS recap video on our YouTube channel) and then went inside to set up the indoor booth.  Around mid-afternoon, the snow had stopped and there were people wiping down trucks like crazy.  We were able to get our awning set up, which provided some good windbreak for the chilly winds that were still blowing through.  We put the finishing touches on both booths and were ready for the kickoff of MATS 2018.

Thursday was the official opening day of MATS and brought a vast amount of VIP’s (early access) ticket holders into both the indoor halls and the outdoor sponsor lot. We had seven representatives including; Myself, Shaun, Autumn, Dan, Will, Roberto and Stephen on site to assist people and showcase some of PDI’s newest product line up. We were all busy throughout the day visiting with past, present and potential customers. We made some announcements for upcoming products (HD Tuner) and new products (Big Boss Intake manifold, Factory replacement Exhaust manifold, and Add-a-Turbo) available for the Cummins X15 and ISX15.  We also brought out our new CAT oil fill Tube and aluminum caps.  The response was great for all of the new products and Thursday went off without a hitch.

Friday and Saturday were more busy days at MATS with thousands of people from all realms of the trucking industry stopping by the booths and enjoying all that MATS have to offer. There were seminars inside, the top working class show trucks in the country on display outside, new product offerings from all in the industry and many booths and trucks to see.  Saturday did bring in more weather (rainy most of the day) so the bulk of the action was indoors.  The trophies for the PKY truck beauty contest were handed out Saturday morning and a great wrap up for the show throughout the day! We were able to get a break in the weather later on Saturday and were able to load up the majority of the indoor and some of our outdoor booths once the show had ended.

Sunday morning brought nice weather and the Imposter and 53’ display trailer were primed and ready to roll west by noon.  Louisville sure brought some surprises this year with the weather, but as always we are glad to support such a great show! We will be looking forward to MATS 2019. We made several stops on our travels west visiting with customers, PDI dealers and friends on our route. We made the 2000 + mile journey back to PDI headquarters in Southern Utah and will be getting ready for the next show in Onaway Michigan.
