Wheel Jam Truck Show
June 1 – 3 2018, Huron, SD – PDI (Performance Diesel Inc.) was proud to be a Double-Overdrive Sponsor at the Wheel Jam Truck Show in Huron, SD! If you read our last show report, you know that we cheated a little on this drive, by leaving our 2018 Peterbilt (The Imposter) and 53’ display trailer at our PDI Authorized Dealer, J&W Diesel in Sioux Falls South Dakota on our way back from the last show in Onaway Michigan. So our travel for this trip began with getting on an airplane in Southern Utah mid-day Tuesday. With a connection in Denver and a small layover, I was making the final leg to Sioux Falls by early evening. Arriving in Sioux Falls around 8:30 p.m., I realized that these jets may outrun The Imposter, but are not nearly as comfortable!
Wednesday was spent getting the road grime and 900 miles worth of bugs scrubbed off the Imposter and the display trailer, filling with water and supplies and making the 120-mile drive from Sioux Falls to Huron. Arriving in the evening, we found our parking space among the tall cottonwood trees on the grass of the SD state fair park. Getting this 295” wheelbase, 53’ long trailer with 13’10” monster stacks through the trees and into our parking spot is always a welcomed challenge! With assistance from the great crew of Wheel Jam, it was business as usual. Parked for the night, we were welcomed with BBQ dinner from Scot, Tracey and the crew, hospitality from this gang is second to none!
Thursday we assembled the awning and got the four-engine block displays rolled into position, with help from Dan (Sales Representative) and Cody (J&W Diesel) and friends from Triple D Express. Rolling 1200 pound engines in the soft grass are no joke! The weather was nice, with a lot of cotton flying through the air, it looked like snow at times but overall nice temperatures for assembling the booth. With everything set to go for the show, Thursday was closed out with a steak feed and live music.
Friday brought the opening of the 2018 Wheel Jam Truck Show and the trucks were still rolling in. There was a steady stream of people stopping by the booth to see the latest products and services from PDI, among them, are our exclusive Cummins X15 tuning, Big Boss intake manifold, factory replacement exhaust manifold and add-a-turbo kit for the Cummins ISX and X15. A lot of customers were interested to learn about our CARB E.O. products available for CAT and Cummins engines. With many of our industry exclusives like our Big Boss Turbo with a stainless exhaust housing, 2400+ foot lb. torque clutches, Big Boss Exhaust manifolds and intake manifolds we had plenty of things to show customers.
Saturday was another great day of Wheel Jam 2018, the trucks were all parked and then pulled out to participate in the Parade through town and re-parked. The dynamic engine brake competition was also held and once again was a popular crowd pleaser. The PDI booth was a popular spot to see what’s new in the performance industry and get a bit of shade under the 1000+ square foot awning. Saturday was wrapped up with dinner for all and awards for the top show trucks that were voted on by the sponsors and organizers. There was an impressive light show on Saturday night with the trucks lighting up the SD State Fair Park and the local radio station playing all of our favorite trucking songs along with great classic rock.
Sunday brought the show to an end, with awards being presented mid-day and the trucks rolling out, as most of the trucks at this show are working trucks and needed to be ready to go back to work Monday morning. The PDI booth was disassembled by Sunday afternoon and loaded up for the ride home. Leaving the Wheel Jam show on Monday morning we had just over 1300 miles to cover to be back in the red rock country of Southern Utah. Coming across South Dakota I-90 and then down to I-80 across, Wyoming and Utah we pulled back into PDI headquarters on Tuesday evening. We were proud to be a part of Wheel Jam 2018 and look forward to next year’s show!
Our next show will be the Top Gun Large Car Shootout July 27- 29 in Rantoul Illinois. Hope to see you all there!
